Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise.
This is my favorite verse in the Book of Mormon. Here a cheerful mouse chatters to me, lifting my depressed spirit. The Lord teaches us that our tiniest efforts in the right direction will add up to exquisite glory in the life to come.
I often thought of that scripture while working on this book project. Each plate was relatively small, but with over a year’s persistence I was able to finish all fifty prints. In the words of the hymn ‘Lead Thou Me On’, One step enough for me’.
This is an original handmade 'sugarlift' etching. It was created at the Lower East Side Printshop. The plate was created by painting with sugar on a copper plate. Boiling water was poured over the sugar exposing the plate in those areas. The plate was then soaked in an acid bath, inked by hand, and run through a printing press to create a this one of a kind image. This particular print is a 'monoprint' because of the extensive hand painting involved. Each image varies slightly.
