I draw hands to represent anonymous multitudes. Hands that lift, hands that condemn, hands that drag us down because we lay ourselves open to sin. Only through prayer and repentance can we free ourselves from the black hands that would drag us down to endless misery and woe.
The original is a handmade etching. It was created at the Lower East Side Printshop. The plate was created by etching the lines into a copper plate. It was then soaked in an acid bath to achieve tones, inked by hand, and run through a printing press to create a this one of a kind image. This is a 'monoprint' in that it involves hand painting to create the vignette
This image was created in an edition of 8.
The paper size is 11x14".
