… For just as surely as this director did bring our fathers, by following its course, to the promised land, shall the words of Christ, if we follow their course, carry us beyond this vale of sorrow into a far better land of promise.”
This veiled figure is inspired by the tragic and haunting 'Hooded Sorrow' funerary sculptures in the Pére Lachaise Cemetery just outside of Paris. We cannot see the blessings beyond this present moment of grief, but we are promised that a paradise awaits if we continue to endure.
The original is a handmade etching. It was created at the Lower East Side Printshop. The plate was created by etching the lines into a copper plate. It was then soaked in an acid bath to achieve tones, inked by hand, and run through a printing press to create a this one of a kind image. Each image varies slightly.
This image was created in an edition of 8.
