This woman is inspired by Mattisse’s ‘The Dance’ which hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I always return to this image in the museum and in my work. I had a poster of it on my wall in High School and have always been fascinated by the palpable energy flow along the women’s outstretched arms. I have depicted myself as one of the dancers and repeated her to make a pattern. She is a high school student version of myself with long beautiful hair and a slender figure.
This is a high quality reproduction of a copperplate etching. The etching is known as a 'monoprint' because once the image was etched, it was painted in reverse using cotton swabs and a vignette was applied using hand wiping.
All images are printed on thick photo-art paper and printed with a Canon Pro 1000 photographic printer.
